The Meadows to Give Away Bike at East Plum Creek Trail Opening
CASTLE ROCK, Colo., June 3, 2009 – The Town of Castle Rock and The Meadows at Historic Castle Rock TM, a master-planned community south of Denver, are celebrating the Grand Opening of the East Plum Creek Trail on National Trails Day at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6. The celebration begins with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the East Plum Creek Trailhead in The Meadows and concludes at Festival Park in downtown Castle Rock with a drawing for a Bianchi Milano Parco commuter bicycle valued at approximately $560 courtesy of The Meadows at Historic Castle Rock and Castle Rock Bike Company.
“The East Plum Creek Trail is the path that finally connects The Meadows and its miles of trails and open space to the Town’s extensive trail system on the east side of the interstate,” said Jim Riley, president of Castle Rock Development Company, the developer of The Meadows. “It also connects The Meadows’ neighborhoods with downtown Castle Rock. Now there’s a destination waiting at the end of your ride or hike—you can bike to your favorite restaurant or coffee shop or get ice cream with the kids.”
In addition to the bicycle giveaway, other activities scheduled for the trail opening include:
- 8:45 a.m.: Birding walk guided by Town of Castle Rock Natural Resource Specialist Barbara Spagnuolo at Castle Rock Middle School in The Meadows (2575 Meadows Blvd.)
- 11 a.m.: Dedication at the East Plum Creek Trailhead in The Meadows just west of Meadows Parkway and Santa Fe Blvd.
- 12:45 p.m.: Ceremony at Festival Park honoring Vision Cornerstone Tribute recipients Lionel and Starr Oberlin and Kent Brandebery with the bike giveaway immediately following
Educational stations and displays will be featured on the 3-mile route from the trailhead to downtown Castle Rock including live bald eagle, falcon, owl and hawk demonstrations from HawkQuest, the Coyote Crew from the Colorado Division of Wildlife and information from Douglas County Open Space and the Audubon Society of Greater Denver.
Attendees of the trail opening are encouraged to park at Castle View High School (5254 N. Meadows Drive), or at Castle Rock Middle School (2575 Meadows Blvd.), and walk or bike on the trail toward downtown Castle Rock. Shuttles will be available to take attendees to the ceremony, departing for the trailhead at 10:30 and 10:45 a.m. The shuttle has scheduled returns at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 and 1:30 p.m.
